Sunday errands

A Peaceful Sunday, a Little Shopping, and a Whole Lot of Family ❤️

There is just something about a peaceful Sunday morning at home. Maybe it’s the slower pace, the coffee in your favorite cup, or simply knowing that family is coming home later that day. Whatever it was, this Sunday started out feeling pretty darn good.

Mr. C and I got up and decided to knock out a few of the easy household chores before Trevor, Melissa, Kyndall, and Liam made it back to the house around 7:30 that evening.

We worked together and got the house freshened up. I wiped down the kitchen counters, emptied the trash, and took care of the laundry and laundry room. Mr. C cleaned the bathroom really well, swept and mopped, emptied the bathroom trash, and wiped everything down. We also straightened up the living room. It really didn’t need much—just a little dusting and a quick vacuum.

Once we had the chores out of the way, we headed out to run a few errands. We stopped by the ATM, filled up my Jeep with gas, and then made the most important stop of the morning… Sonic for breakfast!

Lately, I have really been enjoying their Supersonic Burrito. It has eggs, sausage, cheese, tomatoes, and jalapeΓ±os, and it is filling enough to keep me going for quite a while. Of course, I also had to get myself a peach mango slush. Because breakfast without a little something sweet just doesn’t seem right to me. πŸ˜‚

After breakfast, I knew I needed to make a little trip to Duncan. I wanted to stop by Dollar Tree for a few more energy drinks. They carry the Bang energy drinks for $1.25, and I have really been enjoying the Strawberry Kiss flavor. For $1.25, I don’t mind grabbing a few when I’m there.

Then it was off to Hibbert Sports because I had another important mission.

I needed to find Lane a pair of football cleats.

I told the young man working there that I needed a size 13C, preferably solid black, although black and white would work too. He brought out two different pairs—one Reebok and one Nike.

Well, you probably already know where this story is going.

I chose the Nike pair.

They were mostly black with the little Nike logo in silver, and I just liked the look of them better. When the young man rang them up, I was expecting to pay around the $65 I had seen online.

Imagine my surprise when my total came to only $38!

Now THAT was a win!

I couldn’t believe it. Grandpa and Nana Karen are buying Lane’s football cleats, so saving that much money made me very happy. And now I can’t wait to see him out there wearing those cleats and playing football.

As a matter of fact, I believe his next three games are going to be right here in Rush Springs—less than two miles from our house!

You better believe Nana and Grandpa will be sitting in those stands cheering him on. ❤️

After we got back home, we realized we needed a few more things for dinner because Trevor and his family would be arriving that evening. We decided to make a Mexican casserole so everyone would have something good and easy to eat when they got here.

Luther ran me up to our local grocery store, Delbert’s, and I picked up the few things we needed for the casserole, along with some snacks and other odds and ends for the house.

When we got home, we started putting everything together.

And this is where our little “romantic cooking class” came into play.

I jokingly told Luther, “Hey, I signed us up for a romantic cooking class!”

His immediate response?

“Nope, you did not.”

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I told him that I thought it might be something fun and new for us to do together. Of course, I already knew he wasn’t going to be signing up for any romantic cooking classes anytime soon, but I had to tease him.

Then I told him, “Well, actually, I feel like we’re having our own little cooking class right here at home.”

And honestly, we kind of were.

We were working together, figuring out the casserole, preparing everything for the family, and just doing what we have done together for so many years—making a life together.

Luther and I are definitely different in a lot of ways.

He is much more comfortable staying in his own little comfort zone. He’s not a big crowd person and isn’t particularly social. I, on the other hand, am usually the one wanting to try something new, go somewhere, meet people, or push myself outside of that comfortable little bubble.

Somehow, though, those differences have worked for us all these years.

Maybe that’s part of what makes a marriage work. You don’t have to be exactly alike. Sometimes you just need to love each other, respect each other’s differences, laugh together, and meet somewhere in the middle.

And when I look at my life, I am incredibly thankful that Luther is by my side.

He really is everything to me.

Around 7:30 that evening, Trevor, Melissa, Kyndall, and Liam finally pulled into the driveway.

And just like that, the house felt a little fuller.

We visited for a good while, the kids got their baths and got ready for bed, everyone got fed, and there was just that wonderful feeling of having family home.

Eventually, I headed off to bed around 9:15.

Of course, my body apparently didn’t get the memo that it was bedtime because it seemed to take forever for me to actually fall asleep. πŸ˜‚

But even lying there awake, my heart felt peaceful.

There is something comforting about knowing your son is home safe.

I know Trevor, Melissa, Kyndall, and Liam have truly made North Dakota their home, and I’m grateful that they have a place they love and a life they are building there. But there is still something special about knowing they are home with us, even if it’s only for a visit.

Sunday wasn’t extravagant.

We didn’t do anything earth-shattering.

We cleaned the house, ran errands, found a great deal on football cleats, went grocery shopping, made a casserole, joked about taking a cooking class, and welcomed our family home.

But sometimes those are the days that mean the most.

The ordinary days.

The family days.

The days filled with little moments that you don’t realize are precious until you stop and really appreciate them.

I’m thankful for my husband.

I’m thankful for my children and grandchildren.

I’m thankful for a home that can be filled with laughter, noise, dirty dishes, football cleats, and little ones getting ready for bed.

And most of all, I’m thankful for the blessing of being Nana Karen.

I wouldn’t trade these ordinary, beautiful family moments for anything in the world. ❤️

Sunday is Here!

A Quiet Sunday at Home — Little Wins, Books, and Caring for Mr. C

Hello everybody,

It’s Sunday evening, and I’m finally settling into the bedroom for the night. Today has been one of those slow, quiet days at our house — the kind where you move at a gentle pace and just take things as they come.

Unfortunately, Mr. C has been sick since Thursday, and I’ll tell you, it has been tough seeing him feel so bad. He’s been really dehydrated, and I’ve suggested more than once that we go to the emergency room just to make sure everything is okay. But if you know Mr. C, you know he’s pretty stubborn about things like that, and right now he’s not budging on the idea. So instead, I’m doing what I can here at home — making sure he drinks fluids, offering Pepto-Bismol, and just trying to keep him comfortable.

This morning I ran out early to Dollar General right when they opened at eight o’clock. I picked up some applesauce and a few bottles of Powerade with electrolytes, hoping that would help him get a little hydration back into his system. Sometimes when someone is sick like that, the little things are all you can do, and you just keep trying.

Mr. C. has been up and down throughout the day, resting a lot. While he was resting, I decided to tackle something that has been sitting on my to-do list for quite a while — the laundry room. I spent a little over an hour in there, and it honestly felt so good to get that space back in order. I hung up clothes that had been waiting patiently on hangers, put folded items into the dresser where they belonged, and just straightened everything up.

There’s something so satisfying about checking a task like that off the list. It might not sound like a big project, but those small spaces can really pile up when life gets busy.

I had also planned to move on to the bathroom and do a full declutter and cleaning session in there. I even had everything ready to go. But Mr. C gently protested and said maybe we should wait until he’s feeling better before doing that deep clean. Honestly, he’s probably right. So the supplies are ready, and my plan is to tackle that after work tomorrow evening and give the bathroom a really good scrub and sanitize everything.

For most of the day, though, I spent my time doing something I really enjoy — reading. I curled up with my Kindle app and continued reading Door Peninsula Passions, which is a three-book set. I’m currently on the third book, and I’m hoping to finish it tonight before I fall asleep. If I do, I’ll be able to write up a little book review sometime this week, which I’m looking forward to sharing.

Around three o’clock this afternoon, Mr. C said he was finally feeling a little hungry. That felt like a good sign. I made a simple can of cream of chicken soup, and we split it between the two of us. He had crackers with his, and I added a handful of oyster crackers to mine. It wasn’t anything fancy, but sometimes simple food is exactly what you need. Thankfully, it sat well with him and stayed down, which was a relief.

I didn’t get quite as much journaling done as I had originally planned, but I did manage to complete two entries. I’m still working on catching up from last month, and honestly, I’m really loving how this journal is turning out. I’ve been watching quite a few YouTubers who show different ways to make journal pages interactive, and I’m excited to try some of those ideas in my journal for Mora. Adding little elements like that really makes the pages feel more special and personal.

Later in the afternoon, I did what I like to call a quick “house reset.” Nothing major, just tidying things up a bit. I wiped down the kitchen cabinets, washed the few dishes we had in the sink, cleaned the bathroom counters, and emptied the trash. It’s amazing how those small things make the house feel fresh again.

One thing I always like to do on Sundays is plan out my outfits for the week. Today I grouped together about six different outfits so I won’t have to think about it in the mornings before work. I always include one extra option, just in case I wake up and change my mind about what I want to wear.

Now it’s about 7:30 in the evening, and I’ve made my way into the bedroom for the night. My plan is to spend a little time reading and hopefully finish that last book tonight. Tomorrow morning I’ll start looking for the next book I want to dive into on my Kindle.

Overall, it has been a quiet weekend — peaceful in many ways — though I do wish Mr. C had been feeling better so we could have enjoyed it a little more. My biggest hope now is that he starts improving soon and that I manage to avoid catching whatever he has. With two big vacations coming up this year, I really need to hang on to my PTO hours.

At my job we earn about sixteen hours of PTO each month, which is wonderful, but I tend to save most of mine for those big trips rather than taking random days off. So fingers crossed that I stay healthy and keep those hours right where I need them.

So that was our Sunday — quiet, simple, and full of little moments. I spent some time journaling, tackled the laundry room, read a good book, and tried my best to take care of Mr. C while he rests and recovers.

Thank you so much for stopping by and spending a little part of your day with me. If you’re reading this, be sure to say hello in the comments so I know you stopped by. I always love hearing from you.

Until next time — cheers, and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Cheers, Karen
